Ruling Goes Against Qualcomm In Its Broadcom Patent Dispute
"The decision strengthens the intellectual property rights of all U.S. companies, not just Broadcom, and sends a clear message to all those who would seek to escape the consequences of their patent infringement" A ruling that bans the import of cell phones containing Qualcomm (QCOM)chips that infringe on certain patents held by Broadcom (BRCM)could take effect as soon as Tuesday, throwing a cloud over the cellular chip giant.Late Monday, U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab declined to recommend that President Bush veto a ruling by the International Trade Commission that favorsBroadcom. That ruling had a 60-day review period that ended Monday.Qualcomm in a statement said it "will appeal and renew its request for a stay of the ITC ban on imports." Most EU mobile operators meet new roaming rules
